What does this shift in RSS chief’s stand indicate? Is RSS serious about extending its cadre strength to parties other than BJP?
In the 3-day event that concluded on Wednesday, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat came up with a rare praise for Congress and earful for BJP. As HW News has been mentioning, Bhagwat showed a complete detour in his statement from that of Modi.
In his speech on the day 1 of RSS conclave, Bhagwat heaped praises for the opposition Congress. It came as a surprise as Congress has been constantly criticising BJP and its ideological parent RSS. Mohan Bhagwat not only said that Congress has great contribution in India’s freedom movement but also said that the organization believes in the inclusion of all and the language of “mukt” is not in their lexicon.
Further, Mohan Bhagwat even said that the RSS does not have any particular political affiliation. However, it helps any political party that asks for help. He even mentioned that if any other party comes forth asking for help, the RSS will be happy to allot a “Sangathan Mantri”.
At a time when 2019 elections are just a few months away, what does this shift in RSS chief’s stand indicate? Is RSS serious about extending its cadre strength to parties other than BJP? HW News brings you opinions from across the political lines:
Bhai Jagtap, Mumbai Congress VP:
“RSS has always carried communal ideological perspective. They have a communal agenda. If they want to lead the country forward they will have to leave communal ideology behind. They always speak about Hindutva and want to protect the interest of Hindus. They need to understand that though most of the people living in India are Hindu, the fabric of the country is different. If at all he is talking about the country and its development he has to clarify if RSS is going to stick to their own agenda. This countries progress lies in acceptance of multi-culture, religion, and language. Even if they give an open invitation to Congress to work together for the betterment of the country, there is no way we can work together. Our ideologies are drastically different. We are like East and West. Congress as a party represents vividity and Multicultural society which is a contrast to the ideologies and beliefs of RSS.”
Madhav Bhandari, BJP Spokesperson:
“He is asking other political organizations to come, unite and work together for the nation building. I don’t see any hint of their ideologies going against. The earlier Sarsanghachalak or chief also had same ideologies as what Dr. Mohan Bhagwat has, which reflects unity. Right since its inception, founders of RSS from Dr. Hedgewar to Dr. Mohan Bhagwat have been speaking in a unified language, there is no suggestion of RSS going against BJP. When the opposition talks about liberalism and inclusive politics. Declining such an invitation shows the oppositions rigidity to listen to others viewpoints and their opinion.”
Nawab Malik, NCP Spokesperson:
“What he wants to project to the people of this country is that there is a lot of anger in them against BJP and that they can not face RSS. This is a damage control strategy played out by both sides. They initially started with Gowalkars ideology now they are talking completely different. Why? It is RSS’s strategy to confuse the people of this country. This is nothing but damage control exercise that was pre-planned and executed to confuse the people. They want to divert the mind of the people from other issues.”
