Why is Anil Ambani at the end of the road?

Reality is finally catching up with India’s over borrowed, well-known companies, that used to rule the roost, at one point of time. They are loaded with debts, which they are unable to service or repay. ILFS collapsed under the weight of fraudulent borrowings, and among the watch list of the doddering giants, reeling under loans, are the likes of the Zee Group, Gammon India, Jet Airways, DHFL and Reliance Communications. All these companies are loaded with a debt of hundreds of thousands of crores, with the doubtful capacity to repay the loans, as well as with balance sheets that conceal their murky state of affairs. Sadly they are all listed, with huge loans from banks and public deposits, thus putting humongous public money
at risk. The question is, how did it happen, that these companies which have the services of the best of professionals and consultants get loaded with huge unproductive debt, which is pulling them down. Mr. Akhilesh Bhargava, Business Editor of HW Business and Finance shares his insights on the matter.
