Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka Among Other States Report 0% Vaccine Wastage In 45+ Category

As per data that showed numbers from all states/UTs pertaining to vaccine distribution for the 45+ age group, Lakshwadeep showed the highest percentage of wastage (21.93%).

In an encouraging sign, states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala who are among the worst-hit states during the coronavirus pandemic have reported zero percent of vaccine wastage in the 45+, government data showed. Punjab, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Bihar are the major states reporting significant wastage.

As per data that showed numbers from all states/UTs pertaining to vaccine distribution for the 45+ age group, Lakshwadeep showed the highest percentage of wastage (21.93%). All states/UTs that showed a negative percentage of wastage have been counted as zero for vaccine consumption including Andaman & Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, Telangana and Uttarakhand along with the larger states of Maharashtra, Kerala, and Karnataka

Maharashtra consumed 1,70,28,183 doses out of the 1,75,12,470 doses of both vaccines allotted to them, with 1,50,000 still in the pipeline, Karnataka consumed 1,02,45,332 out of the 1,06,26,900 allotted and Kerala consumed 76,95,855 out of the 78,97,790 allotted.

The overall picture, however, remains grim. As part of the liberalized vaccination drive that started on May 1, due to vaccine shortage, the drive has been proceeding at a crawling rate. Only 23,70,298 jabs were administered across the country in the last 24 hours with Maharashtra recording the maximum vaccinations (4,61,738). The total jabs administered in the country as of today stand at 16,49,73,058.

Meanwhile, the rise in positive COVID-19 cases continues unabated. India recorded 4,14,188 and 3915 deaths in the last 24 hours, its highest since the pandemic.
