JEE/NEET Row: Greta Thunberg Extends Support To Indian Students, Demands Postponement Of Exams

Greta Thunberg, the popular Swedish climate activist, has voiced her support to students who will have to attend the examinations if held.

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test( NEET) 2020 and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2020 have been scheduled to take place in September 2020. Amid the concerns over the coronavirus pandemic, many students, activists and politicians have already voiced their opposition to holding exams when the country is already battling the consequences of the pandemic.

The recent voice to come in support of Indian students is from across the borders. Greta Thunberg, the popular Swedish climate activist, has voiced her support to students who will have to attend the examinations if held.

“It’s deeply unfair that students of India are asked to sit for national exams during the Covid-19 pandemic and while millions have also been impacted by the extreme floods,” Greta Thunberg said.

Extending her support to students fighting against this issue, the climate activist said, “I stand with their call to #PostponeJEE_NEETinCOVID.”

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi, in a tweet, said, “Government of India must listen to the #StudentsKeMannKiBaat about NEET, JEE exams and arrive at an acceptable solution.” His statement comes a day before the top court is scheduled to hear the matter.

Before Rahul, Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia had also urged the centre to rethink the decision and “make the alternate arrangement”.

Sources, however, suggested that the central government plans to go ahead with the exams for which lakhs of students appear from across the country. As per the schedule, admit cards as for the exams have already been issued and majority students have downloaded them, sources said.
