Big push for India: Hafiz Saeed declared “terrorist” by Pakistan

The Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday signed on the ordinance to bring Hafiz Saeed’s LeT under the ambit of the amended Anti-Terrorism Act.

Pakistan who was slammed by the United States earlier last year for harboring terrorists, has now under Global pressure has declared Hafiz Saeed a terrorist. Hafiz Saeed is a mastermind of 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai. His organization Lashkar-e-Taiba has been banned by the United Nations.

The development comes after a decade-long blockade set up outside Hafiz Saeed’s home was removed by the Pakistan police. The blockade was put up by the members of Jamaat-ud-Dawah citing security concern.

Director of Inspector General (Lahore) Dr Haider Ashraf said, “We have removed blockades from 26 places including JuD headquarters in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders.”

The United Nations Security Council has already banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jamaat-ud-Dawah, and Harkat-ul Mujahideen. The Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday signed on the ordinance to bring all these terror outfits under the ambit of the amended Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997.

There are a total of 27 banned outfits in the UN list. Despite facing a ban Hafiz Saeed has decided to contest general elections of the country, under the name Milli Muslim League (MML).

The development comes in the wake of pressure built on Pakistan by the international community. The US has also kept a bounty of $10 million on Hafiz Saeed’s head. Recently, US President Donald Trump after issuing a warning to Pakistan cut its military aid. Donald Trump charged that Pakistan has failed in curbing the terrorism in the country.

In a Twitter post, he lashed out at the Pakistan government saying, “The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more!”.
