India-Oman vow to strengthen defence ties and peaceful use of outer space

PM Modi praised the India-Oman relationship and said despite several political upheavals in both the countries, the relationship was never soured.

 

In the last leg of his three-nation tour to Gulf and West Asian Region Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Oman on Sunday. PM Modi here, held talks with Oman’s Sultan. The counterparts also signed as much as eight MoUs in the field of defence, tourism and health.

PM Modi was earlier in Abu Dhabi where he laid a foundation stone of first Hindu temple in Dubai and addressed the Indian community there. In Oman, PM Modi held a delegation level talks with the Qaboos bin Said al Said and discussed a host of issues. Both the leaders also agreed to increase regional cooperation in several fields.

Following the delegation-level talks, the two sides signed eight MoUs, including one on legal and judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters.

The number of Indian origin people residing in Gulf for work purpose is more. Giving a big relief to the community, both the counterparts signed an agreement on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, service and official passports. Significantly, a MoU was signed between India and Oman on cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of outer space.

Earlier PM Modi addressing the India diaspora praised the India-Oman relationship and said despite several political upheavals in both the countries, the relationship was never soured. Modi said, “The ties of India and Oman have always remained strong despite the ups and downs in the political environment in both the countries.”

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar giving out details of the meet tweeted, “Charting out new frontiers in our bilateral relationship, PM @narendramodi led delegation-level talks with Sultan Qaboos of Oman. The two strategic partners discussed to strengthen cooperation in trade & investment, energy, defence & security, food security and regional issues.”

PM Modi is expected to be in Oman for two more days where he will also meet the council of ministers.
