PM Modi to lay foundation stone of first Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi today

PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the first traditional Hindu temple in the Middle East which will be open to people of all religious backgrounds.

 

After his meeting with a Crowned Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the first Hindu temple. PM Modi is currently on a three-nation tour.  He will visit Gulf and the West Asian region. PM Modi in the first leg of the tour visited Palestine and vowed to strengthen the ties further.

After his visit to Palestine and Jordan, PM Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday where both the sides signed as much as five agreements. In a first-ever, a MoU was signed awarding a consortium of Indian Oil companies a 10% stake in oil concession.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony of Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi will take place at around 9.30 AM. The temple which will be erected on an area of almost 50,000 square Kilometres will replicate the BAPS temple in New Delhi. Set up in 1907, Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), is a socio-spiritual Hindu organisation which runs more than 1,100 temples around the world.

The temple will include a visitors’ centre, prayer halls, exhibitions, learning areas, sports area for children and youths, thematic gardens, water features and a food court. It is expected to complete by 2020.

The temple will be the first traditional Hindu temple in the Abu Dhabi and Middle East and will be open to people of all religious backgrounds. One of the specialities of the temple is that it will be hand-carved by Indian temple artisans.

After the foundation-laying ceremony, PM Modi will address Modi the Indian community at Dubai Opera House. Representatives of all major organisations and a number of Indian professionals have been invited.
