Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal had twice skipped his scheduled appearance before the central probe agency in the last few days, citing ill-health.

Mumbai: Anubrata Mondal, a senior member of the Trinamool Congress, was detained by the CBI today at his residence in Bolpur, Bengal, for reportedly refusing to cooperate with the investigation into a case of cattle smuggling, an official said.
A CBI team that arrived at the residence of the Birbhum district president early today morning interrogated Mr. Mondal for about an hour before making their arrest, he claimed.

“We have arrested him for non-cooperation in the investigation into the cattle smuggling scam. We have found Mr Mondal’s direct involvement in the scam. We will question him today and take necessary action as per law,” the official told PTI.
Prior to the Trinamool leader’s detention, the CBI allegedly served him with a notice.

He declared that the CBI will also examine the Bolpur hospital doctor who had advised Mr. Mondal to take 14 days of bed rest.

The person stated that investigators are also raiding the homes of a number of the Trinamool leader’s close friends.

The CBI, which has conducted raids at numerous sites in the district in connection with the matter, has questioned Mr. Mondal twice. The central agency has also detained his bodyguard Saigal Hossain.
