WATCH: Moment When Author Salman Rushdie Was Stabbed In New York

Popular author Salman Rushdie was stabbed multiple times today in New York on stage before the beginning of the lecture. According to reports, he suffered stab wounds on his neck and was airlifted to a hospital.

Salman Rushdie was stabbed 10-15 times. The incident took place at Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua. A man reportedly ran towards the stage at the institution when Rushdie was being introduced. Eyewitnesses said the man confronted Rushdie and within moments began stabbing him in the neck. He also attacked the interviewer. The video of the incident shows people in the audience rushing to Rushdie’s aide.

The attacker has been arrested by police. The motive of the attack is not yet clear. Rushdie was taken by helicopter to a hospital, state police said. His condition was not immediately known. Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York State, said, “He is alive and has been transported, airlifted, to safety.”
