After BAT attack, Pak targets civilian areas in Uri

Locals shifted to safer places by police

Uri: After attempting a BAT attack on Indian forward post in Poonch, Pakistani army last night violated ceasefire in Uri sector targeting residential areas in which many civilians got injured.

Meanwhile, in the view of the ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops, police shifted inhabitants of village Thajal and Soni to safer locations to avoid any casualty.

Defence PRO Jammu, Lt Col Rajesh Kalia said that Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting forward Army posts in Uri sector on Monday evening at 17:15 hrs.

He said later, that the Pakistani troops targeted civilian population in Churunda near the LoC. Indian troops also retaliated effectively adding that Pakistan troops also suffered a major loss in the firing.

Pertinently this was the first ceasefire violation done by Pakistan in Uri sector this year.
