Death toll in Himachal Pradesh’ Solan building collapse reaches 7; CM Thakur visits collapse site

Shimla | The Death toll in the four-storey building collapse in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan has reached 7 as 6 Army men and 1 civilian has reported death.

As per the local police, “Around 17 Army personnel & 11 civilians are rescued so far while 6 Army personnel & 1 civilian casualty is reported, 7 Army personnel are still feared trapped.”

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur also visited the collapse site early morning. Speaking to reporters, CM Thakur said,” It is very unfortunate. The rescue operation was started immediately. Orders have been given to investigate the cause of the collapse. As per info received till now, the building structure was not as per specifications.”

The building, located on the Nahan-Kumarhatti road, housed a restaurant and collapsed amidst heavy rains in the area. The Indian Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police are jointly carrying out the rescue operation, the official said, adding that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has also been called from Panchkula in Haryana. The Army personnel and their family members had reportedly stopped for lunch at the restaurant.
