Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday announced that the government has banned e-cigarettes

New Delhi– India’s finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced banned on e-cigarette which is found in flavours too across India.

Following this decision, manufacturing, import, export transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertising related to e-cigarettes are now banned.

The key reason behind the move was the alarming rate at which vaping is becoming popular among the younger population.

Sitharaman, who had headed a group of ministers on the issues, said the cabinet decided to ban e-cigarettes and similar products as they pose a health risk to people, especially the youth.

A draft ordinance suggests that the storage of e-cigarettes will now be punishable by Rs 50,000 imprisonment up to six months or both.

The Government would introduce a bill in parliament in the winter session.

Once the ordinance is issued any individual in possession of e-cigarettes stocks needs to declare and deposits it with the nearest police station.
