As Mumbai Coronavirus Cases Blow Up, CAPF Deployed In MMR

CAPF has been deployed in Mumbai, Pune, Malegaon, Amravati & other places to ensure state police get rest from COVID-related duties, Home Minister said.

Mumbai: On Saturday, Maharashtra registered 1,606 fresh novel coronavirus cases and 67 deaths, including 41 in Mumbai, taking the tally to 30,706 and the death toll to 1,135.

CAPF has been deployed in Mumbai, Pune, Malegaon, Amravati & other places to ensure state police get rest from COVID-related duties, Home Minister said.

Maharashtra government had recently requested the Central government to deploy 20 companies of the Central Armed Police Forces.

“Some of their companies have come to Maharashtra. Their personnel have been deployed in Mumbai, Pune, Malegaon, Amravati and other places to ensure Maharashtra police gets rest,” Deshmukh told reporters.

State police have been working “day in and day out” to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Maharashtra, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had said.

Many state police officers have tested positive for COVID-19 and need time to rest and recuperate, he had said.

The total number of the recovered cases climbed to 7,088 with 524 patients were cured on Saturday, a statement said.

The total number of cases in Maharashtra– the worst affected state by the virus, reported 30,706
with over 1,135 deaths. It also recorded it’s the highest spike this week.

Of the total cases in Maharashtra, 7,088 have been discharged, active cases 22,483 and people tested so far 2,61,783.

India is the 11th most-affected country in terms of the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, overtaking China, where the virus first emerged.

Globally, the total number of COVID-19 cases topped 4,630,000 while the death toll crossed 311,000, as per the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.
