PM-CARES Received Rs 205 Crore From Salaries Of RBI, Govt Banks and LIC Staff

As per the RTI queries answered by these institutions and banks to the Indian Express, 15 of them made a total contribution of Rs 349.25 crore to the fund.

According to a report by Indian Express, the PM-CARES, received contributions not only from a wide range of central educational institutions, but also from at least seven public sector banks, seven other leading financial institutions and insurers, and the RBI. Rs 204.75 crore were contributed by these institutions from their staff salaries.

Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), according to the records, along with General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC) and National Housing Bank, contributed over Rs 144.5 crore separately from their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) allocation and other provisions.

As per the RTI queries answered by these institutons and banks to the Indian Express, 15 of them made a total contrbution of Rs 349.25 crore to the fund.

However, the Prime Minister’s Office, which manages the fund, has declined to furnish details of contributions received. It also said that PM-CARES is “not a public authority under the…RTI Act”.

At the top of list of public sector banks and institutions that responded to RTI queries to Indian Express, LIC alone gave Rs 113.63 crore to PM CARES under various categories: Rs 8.64 crore from staff salaries, Rs 100 crore under “Corporate Communication” and Rs 5 crore under “Golden Jubilee Foundation”, the report said.

Among the banks that responded to queris, the SBI is at the top, contributed over 107.95 crore — the first tranche of Rs 100 crore was paid on March 31. Largest banker in the country, SBI also stated in its response that its entire contribution was from the salaries of its employees.

Banking regulator, RBI, has also stated that ts Rs 7.34 crore was from “contribution by employees”.

According to the responses received by the Indian Express to their RTI queries, below are the amounts contributed from staff salaries and related benefits-

* Canara Bank did not provide any detail other than to state that its Rs 15.53 crore was the “total amount contributed”.

* Union Bank of India (Rs 14.81 crore): one-day privilege leave encashment of employees.

* Central Bank of India (Rs 11.89 crore): two-day privilege leave encashment of employees.

* Bank of Maharashtra (Rs 5 crore): one-day salary and two-day leave encashment of employees.

* SIDBI, Small Industries Development Bank of India, (Rs 80 lakh): “voluntary contribution from salary” of employees.

* GIC (Rs 14.51 lakh): “one-day salary” of employees.

* IRDAI, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority, (Rs 16.08 lakh): “voluntary contribution” by employees.

* NABARD, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, (Rs 9.04 crore): salaries of “employees and retired employees”.

* National Housing Bank (Rs 3.82 lakh): “employee contribution”.
