“Heart-wrenching”: PM Modi condoles deaths in Kishtwar accident

At least 35 people died and over a dozen were injured when an overcrowded bus skidded off a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar.

 

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi today expressed grief about the loss of lives in the Kishtwar bus accident. He said the accident in J&K is “Heart-Wrenching”. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

At least 35 people died and over a dozen were injured when an overcrowded bus skidded off a hilly road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar at around 7.30 am.

Earlier, J&K Governor Satyapal Malik announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of the deceased. He directed the administration to provide the best medical treatment to the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.

Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted about the incident expressing his condolences.

Former J&K Chief Minister and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti tweeted, “Saddened to hear about the tragic accident in Kishtwar. Deepest condolences to families of the bereaved.”

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also tweeted about the incident and wished swift recovery of the injured.
