Rahul Gandhi

This week has seen a major upheaval in Nation’s politics. Earlier this week, the 2G verdict hit the stands which left everyone aghast. The shocking effect of the 2G verdict was still fresh when the news broke that Bombay High Court squashed the sanction by the governor to prosecute former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in Adarsh Scam. After the two favourable verdicts, Rahul Gandhi seems to be on rebound as his party was so far burdened with the tag of “Corrupt Government”.

The newly elected Congress President did not leave the opportunity and attacked party’s rival BJP calling it a liar. Rahul Gandhi while addressing the media said BJP’s structure is about lies. Unleashing a scathing attack on BJP he said, “The whole architecture and structure of BJP is of lies.” Gandhi who was seen in an aggressive mode said, “Modi’s Gujarat Model too is a lie.”

Rahul Gandhi said during election campaigns they met several people who revealed that “there was no model at all”. He said, “What is going on is just usurpation of natural resources of Gujarat.”

Since taking over as a President of the Grand Old Party, Rahul Gandhi for the first time chaired a meeting of Congress Working Committee. However, his attack did not stop here.

Rahul Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Gujarat. He will be attending a review meeting with newly elected MLAs from his party. However, before beginning the schedule he tweeted with a hashtag #BJPLies. In the tweet, he wittily said that if there would be a film franchise on BJP it would be called ‘Lie Hard’.

His tweet comes days after a news channel ran a story that Rahul Gandhi was watching Star Wars even after losing Gujarat Elections. However, after his tweet, #BJPLies became a top trend on Twitter.

The favourable verdicts definitely have motivated the Congress post-defeat in Gujarat Elections. Next year, six more states are going for elections and the battleground is being readied with attacks and counter-attacks.

The Manipur Human Rights Commission has directed the state director general of police to probe the matter and submit a report by September 22.

Imphal, Sep 18 (PTI) The Manipur Police Monday took out a rally from Moreh to Tengnoupal, along the India-Myanmar border, to protest incidents of mob violence in the state.

The “men in uniform”, numbering around 70 and led by Tengnoupal Superintendent of Police S Ibombcha Singh, was joined in by more than 500 volunteers of various civic bodies.

“The two-km peace rally – from Moreh police station to Tengnoupal district headquarters – was taken out to generate awareness about the need for maintenance of law and order in the society,” Ibomcha Singh told PTI.

A civil official, who did not wish to be named, said the peace rally was the first of its kind in the state.

The rally came four days after a 26-year-old man was lynched by an irate mob at Tharoijam area of Imphal West district on suspicion of being a vehicle lifter.

Local people had also set afire a car believed to have been used by “two of his associates”.

Five persons, including a havildar of India Reserve Battalion (IRB), have been arrested in this connection.

The purported video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed that the four police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were “present at the spot when the victim was alive and lying unattended”, Imphal West SP Jogeshwar Haobijam had said.

While the sub-inspector was suspended, three other officers were terminated from their services.

Haobijam had also said that the Cyber Crime Unit was tracking individuals who had uploaded clips of the bleeding victim.

The lynching episode triggered sharp condemnations and sit-in protests by various social activists in the area.

The Manipur Human Rights Commission has directed the state director general of police to probe the matter and submit a report by September 22.

People in large numbers have also been organizing torch rallies here, demanding justice for the victim.
