Rajasthan’s Barmer death toll reaches 15; CM Gehlot orders inquiry


Barmer (Rajasthan) | The death toll after a shamiana fell due to strong winds during a religious programme in Barmer district of Rajasthan has reached 15.

A ‘Ram Katha’ was organised at Jasol area of the district when the shamiana was uprooted by strong winds trapping the people sitting under it, Additional Superintendent of Police, Khinv Singh had said yesterday.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on the incident, “We have ordered an inquiry into the incident. Action will be taken based on the inquiry report. We are thinking of issuing an advisory regarding arrangements and security at such events to prevent similar incidents in future”.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Union Minister and armer MP, Kailash Chaudhary visited the hospital.

CM Ashok Gehlot has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives & Rs 2 lakh to the injured.
