Ramdev’s controversial Population control measure: “Third child should be stripped of voting rights”

Proposing a liquor ban throughout the country, Ramdev said, “Even Islamic countries enforce liquor ban. India is a land of sages. Why should we not do it?”

New Delhi| The rising population has been one of the social issues India is facing. India is the second largest populated country in the world after neighbouring China. Now, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has proposed a controversial measure for population control. Expressing concern over the issue, Ramdev said that a law should be made for population control.

Speaking at a press conference, Ramdev said that the country’s population may increase rapidly in the next few decades but as a nation, we are not prepared to accommodate so many people. “Our population shouldn’t cross 150 cr in next 50 yrs. We aren’t prepared to have a population more than that,” said Ramdev.

He also proposed a measure saying the couples be allowed to have only two children and third child should be stripped off his voting rights and facilities from the government. “It can be possible only when a law is made that the third child won’t have voting rights, right to contest elections and facilities by the govt,” said Ramdev.

Apart from population control, he also suggested a blanket ban on liquor sale and beef ban across the country. He said, “Even Islamic countries enforce liquor ban. India is a land of sages. Why should we not do it?”
