Six Questions For UP Police After Encounter of Gangster Vikas Dubey

It was in the morning 10 minutes before the encounter of Vikas Dubey that the police stopped the media vans on the pretext of security checking.

Gangster Vikas Dubey who was nabbed by the police in MP Yesterday has been killed in an encounter today. Dubey was handed over to the UP STF by MP Police yesterday. UP STF took him in custody, he was with the police for almost 6-8 hours. Around 6.30 in the morning the 3 car convoy carrying Vikas Dubey passed a toll plaza. Half an hour later, as per the police, the car that carried Dubey toppled over and it skids off the road.

As per the police, Dubey saw the opportunity, he snatched a pistol from police and ran away. Police tried to stop him but he refused and in the crossfire, bullets hit him on his chest and his waist. He was taken to a nearby police station where he was declared dead.

It is almost a script of Bollywood film including the predictability of the plot. Yesterday, when he was nabbed many had speculated that he had, in fact, planned his surrender. He went to the Ujjain Mahakal temple, he took the 250 rs VIP pass, took darshan inside the temple, roamed in the premises for 2 hours before shouting that he is Vikas Dubey of Kanpur. As per some reports, he himself told the security guard to alert the police that he wants to surrender. This was done to avoid encounter at the hands of police.

What was suspected indeed happened today and Dubey was killed in an encounter. His investigation would have led to information to come out but now all of the secrets of the criminal-police and politicians nexus is now buried with his encounter.

But the sequence of events does raise questions on the police’s handling of the case.

1. Yesterday MP Police handed Vikas Dubey to UP STF. Earlier it was decided that Vikas Dubey will be flown back to Kanpur in a chartered plane but the decision was changed last minute and now the police decided that he will be taken to Kanpur by road. Three car convoy was prepared. He was sitting in the car that was in the middle. Why was the plan changed? from chartered plane travel by road. Why? As per some reports that the routes that the police took were also the longest one among the available routes. Why would the police choose the longest route to escort him back to Kanpur instead of the shorter one?

2. Since it was a high profile case several media vans were following the UP STF Car. It was in the morning 10 minutes before the encounter that the police stopped the media vans on the pretext of security checking. 10 minutes later the media came to know that the car was met with an accident and Dubey was killed in an encounter. Why were media persons stopped? Was it really a security check or an attempt to hide what was really going to happen to Vikas Dubey from the lenses of media?

3. At a nearby toll plaza, many people present there shot the video of the convoy carrying Dubey. It is clearly seen that the vehicle is Tata safari. Now, look at these visuals. The car that skid is a Mahindra TUV 300. As per some ground reports, there were no marks of tires if it would have indeed skidded off the road.
In the 10 minutes after the media was stopped, was Vikas Dubey shifted from Tata safari to Mahindra TUV 300? If so what was the need? Or is it just a cover-up job?

4. A few days ago when he was spotted in Faridabad and even when he was spotted at the Mahakal temple, it could be seen that he was limping. How could the limping person run away from the accident site to the site of encounter which is at least 150 KMs away? Couldn’t the police catch him?

5. As per the Protocol, in case of dreaded gangsters, the police who are travelling with him need to tie their weapons. Why wasn’t it done? Moreover, why did the police not take transit remand?

6. The bullets were shot at his chest and waist. as per protocol why wasn’t he shot on the leg if the situation required so?
