Unnao Case: Supreme Court pulls up CBI, CJI asks status report by 12 today

However, CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked the Solicitor General to take the status report on the phone and appoint a CBI officer to represent them in the court. 

 

New Delhi| In a major relief to the Unnao Rape Survivor, the Supreme Court has decided to speed up the trial.  Taking cognizance of the seriousness of the case, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that all cases related to Unnao matter will now be transferred outside Uttar Pradesh.

The Supreme Court has also come down heavily on the CBI. CJI has asked the status report from the CBI team investigating the case. He has also asked to submit the report by 12 PM.

During the hearing of the case, the Solicitor General told the Supreme Court that the CBI team investigating the matter is in Lucknow. Thus, the status report cannot be delivered before 12 PM. He said, even if officials fly down from Lucknow to Delhi, they will not be able to reach by 12 PM.

However, CJI Ranjan Gogoi asked the Solicitor General to take the status report on the phone and appoint a CBI officer to represent them in the court.

CJI takes cognizance of the Unnao Rape survivor’s letter:

Apparently, the Unnao Rape Survivor had written a letter addressed to the CJI. She had mentioned that there is a threat to her life. “People came to my house and threatened to take back cases, otherwise the whole family will be put in jail in fake cases,” says the letter was written on July 12.

On Wednesday, CJI Ranjan Gogoi took cognizance of the letter. however, he said that he did not know a letter was sent to him. “The letter has not been placed before me and newspapers flashed that CJI did not act,” Justice Gogoi said.

FIR against BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar:

FIR has been filed by the UP government as well as the CBI against BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others for being responsible. Kuldeep Sengar is also the main accused in the Unnao rape case and is currently in jail.

The 19-year-old Unnao victim and her lawyer were injured and two of her aunts killed in the accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli. She has been critically injured and doctors on Wednesday said she is stable now. Meanwhile, the Opposition has strongly criticised the BJP government for not taking any action against its MLA.
