JDS MLA HD Revanna Released On Bail In Kidnapping Case

Janata Dal (Secular) MLA HD Revanna was released on bail by a local court in a kidnapping case. His son, Prajwal Revanna, is accused in a Karnataka sex scandal involving leaked obscene videos.

HD Revanna was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 4 and was in custody for three days. The court ordered him to provide a bail bond of ₹5 lakh.

He is the son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and is alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of a sexual assault survivor related to his son, Prajwal Revanna.

On Thursday, HD Revanna’s lawyer, CV Nagesh, argued that the case against the MLA wasn’t legally valid because the petition filed by the SIT didn’t provide any evidence against him.

Mr Nagesh claimed that HD Revanna’s arrest was unnecessary since he could have been released after questioning and summoned for further interrogation as required.

He added, “The survivor was neither forced nor trapped, and there was no demand involved,” stated the lawyer. “HD Revanna’s arrest appears to be politically motivated, given his status as a politician. The incident occurred on April 29, yet the FIR was only filed on May 2. No kidnapping or illegal detention occurred. The survivor worked as a maid at HD Revanna’s residence, and therefore, kidnapping charges are unfounded”.

The Karnataka Police lodged an FIR against HD Revanna on Friday following a missing complaint filed by the woman’s son, who is believed to be one of the survivors of the sex video scandal involving his son. In the FIR, Revanna’s relative, Satish Babu, was named as the second accused and was apprehended from Mysuru district on the same day.
