Mumbai: Home Minister Urges For Communal Harmony As Vehicles Vandalized On Ram Navami

Mumbai: In Mankhurd unknown miscreants vandalized the streets on Sunday night. Hence, Mumbai police have deployed heavy security in Mankhurd, to ensure that no untoward incident takes place again.

Twenty-five vehicles including cars, autos, two-wheelers were damaged in the violent attacks. “An investigation is underway to ascertain the identity of the culprits and the reason behind the attack,” police said.

On social media, a CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral. In the footage it can be seen that a mob is vandalizing the vehicles with rods and swords.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Pandey, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vishwas Nangre Patil and other senior officials visited the spot this morning.

Police asked people not to believe in rumours and fake videos being circulated on social media, officials said.

Taking a note of the incident Dilip Walse Patil, Maharashtra Home Minister, appealed people of all the community to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

He said, “Members of some political parties have been giving ‘provocative’ statements, which could increase enmity between Hindus and Muslims.”

He also ensured that a proper legal action will be taken against the culprits of vandalism, and those who are instigate communal tensions in the state. “Please cooperate with us to maintain communal harmony in Maharashtra,” Patil urged the citizens in a video.

This comes after MNS leader Raj Thackeray made remarks at a rally in Mumbai last week, seeking a ban on loudspeakers playing the Azaan in Mosques.

MNS leaders in several parts of Maharashtra have taken to playing the Hanuman Chalisa from loudspeakers after a call-to-arms by Thackeray.

Yesterday outside Shiv Sena Bhavan in the city, MNS leader and Taxi driver were detained for allegedly playing Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeaker.

Taking jibes at the ruling Shiv Sena, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and the BJP’s Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis asked “why some people get angry over the recital of Hanuman Chalisa.”
