Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey Joins JDU In Presence Of Nitish Kumar

There are speculations that the former Bihar DGP will contest election from one of the assembly segments in his native district of Buxar.

On Sunday, former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, who recently took VRS, joined JD(U) at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence in Patna. Pandey, who had taken VRS less than half a year before he was scheduled to superannuate, has chosen to keep his cards close to the rest till now. Though there are speculations that the former Bihar DGP will contest election from one of the assembly segments in his native district of Buxar.

Pandey might be considered for the Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat where a by-poll has been necessitated by the death of sitting JD(U) MP Baidyanath Mahto, reports in a section of media suggested.

Earlier, the Bihar government had accepted DGP Gupteshwar Pandey’s voluntary retirement from service with effect from September 22.

Though, this is not the first time Pandey has used the voluntary retirement scheme (VRS). In 2009, Pandey had resigned from the IPS. There were speculations about him fighting elections even back then, but Pandey didn’t fit in the equations and was reinstated in IPS after he urged the government.

The Bihar DGP made to the news this year when the Sushant Singh Rajput case started gaining a form of a movement to get justice for the deceased actor. Pandey bashed the Mumbai Police along with BJP politicians after his officers were allegedly ill-treated by the Maharashtra government when they went to carry investigation in the complaint registered by the actor’s father. Pandey openly supported the transfer of the case to the CBI and rejoiced after the supreme court transferred the case to the CBI. That was when he infamously asked Rhea Chakraborty’s aukat (stature) to question the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, for which he had to face heavy backlash.
