In JNU Campus Swami Vivekananda Statue is Defaced

The statue was covered with orange cloth and objectionable messages

NEW DELHI| On Thursday In JNU campus soon going to be inaugurated Statue of Swami Vivekananda was Defaced. The statue was covered with orange cloth and objectionable messages were written on the platform.

Getting no clarity who was responsible for this action speculation around the student college students were responsible for this move.

The statue is situated on the right side of the administrative block opposite the statue of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The written words were giving a clear message pointing at BJP and its affiliates.

The incident took place just a day after students entered the JNU administration block and left painted messages for vice-chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. The students had earlier demanded to meet him and discuss the hostel fee hike.

However, the JNU administration announced a partial rollback of the hostel fee hike and also said that clauses in the draft hostel manual pertaining to dress code and curfew timings were also removed.

Throughout Wednesday, several students barged inside the administration block of JNU to talk to the VC. When they could not find him or any other officials in the building, the protesting students painted messages on walls near the vice-chancellor’s office.

“You are not our VC. Go back to your Sangh,” they wrote on one of the doors to the VC’s office. Another message written on the floor outside the office read, “Mamidala, Bye, Bye Forever.”

 

On one of the walls of the administration block, the students wrote, ” VC must Resign.”

The security officials of the university have reportedly captured visuals of the incidents. These recorded visuals will be used to investigate and punish erring students by the university.

According to the reports, the JNU will give maximum punishment of rustication from the university to those students who have been recognised. Other students who have been involved in the provocation will be fined Rs 20,000 and may face eviction from the hostel as well.
