Asked for 10 days, done in 2: Rahul Gandhi tweets on farm loan waive

New Delhi | After the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday announced that the state government will waive off farm loans worth 2 lakhs, Congress President said that the Congress party asked for 10 days to full fill the poll promise but did in 2 days.

The Congress president on his Twitter handle wrote,” It’s done! Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh have waived farm loans. We asked for 10 days. We did it in 2.”

The Congress party in its manifesto for the assembly polls in Rajasthan Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh had promised that if the Congress party forms its government in these states, the party will waive of the farm loans in 10 days or else the Chief Minister will resign. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh government announced about the waving of farm loans on 17 December while the Rajasthan government announced it on 19 December.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been championing the cause of farm loan waivers though he recently said in a press conference that they were not permanent solutions to the farming crisis and technological advances in agriculture in consultation with farmers were needed. Addressing the press on Tuesday, Gandhi had said, “We said our governments will waive loans in 10 days. In MP and Chhattisgarh, it has taken less than six hours.”
