Congress’ ‘Azadi Gaurav Yatra’ Concludes In Delhi, Sonia Gandhi Administers Pledge To Leaders

The Congress had began the ‘Azadi Gaurav Yatra’ from Gandhi Ashram in Gujarat to commemorate 75 years of independence, which culminated at Delhi’s Rajghat on Wednesday. This 1171 km journey started from Sabarmati Ashram on 6th April. It is also being considered as the beginning of the party’s campaign for the Gujarat Assembly elections. A Congress leader said party president Sonia Gandhi and MP Rahul Gandhi had decided to organize the yatra to “make our new generation aware of the sacrifices made by our leaders in achieving independence from the British Raj”.

This journey lasted for 2 months and was completed in 42 days. While passing through four states in two months, many big leaders reached to encourage the Seva Dal members during this journey. Sonia Gandhi reached the closing ceremony today and administered the pledge to the leaders of Seva Dal. The pledge spoke of fighting for the country and the Congress constitution was reiterated. Though Sonia did not give any speech at the event, she personally met every leader and worker of Seva Dal.

While addressing the concluding program of Gaurav Yatra, Lalji Desai, the President of Seva Dal, said the slogan of our country is ‘Kashmir se Kanyakumari Bharat Mata Ek Hamari’ but today the condition of the country is such that it is being divided in the name of language and colour. “The government is doing this, but the Congress, the oldest party of the country, will work to save the country,” he added.
