Reacting to Chavan’s statement, Sambit Patra said, ” This is an appeasing remark from a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra”
Mumbai: On Wednesday the Bharatiya Janta Party’s spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed opposition leaders to accuse them of “abusing” Hindus for their appeasement politics and referred to the Congress as “Muslim League Congress”.
BJP has asked for an apology from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said leaders of these parties have used the current protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act to “abuse” Hindus.
The BJP in its press conference also raised questions over former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Congress leader Ashok Chavan, where he claimed that the Congress formed government in Maharashtra with ShivSena on the appeal of the Muslim community.
Reacting to Chavan’s statement, Sambit Patra said, ” This is an appeasing remark from a former Chief Minister of Maharashtra”.
“Does this mean that the Congress forms government in Maharashtra was asked to the Muslims and Muslims only? Do they not care about the Hindus or the other communities?” Patra added.
The BJP leader also suggested that the Congress party should be renamed from Indian National Congress to ‘Muslim league Congress’ as they only talk about the Muslim community and try to polarise them.
A few days back Chavan has said in a public meeting that the Congress decided to join hands with the ShivSena to form government in Maharashtra as Muslims wanted the party to stop the BJP, Patra said, He also claimed that it shows the opposition party has nothing to do with people belonging to other religions, including Hindus.
On Monday in Pune, NCP leader, and Maharashtra Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad stirred a controversy by saying that Muslims could tell where their grandfather was buried but Hindus would not be able to tell the place where the cremation of their ancestors was performed. Patra also questioned NCP and referred Jitendra Awhad he slammed for his comments.
When questioned about Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s reported took a jibe at the RSS for its “non-participation” in the freedom movement, the BJP leader hit back, asking if parents of Sonia Gandhi, who is of Italian origin, had fought in India’s independence struggle.
Sambit Patra said that the opposition party’s full name should be called the “Muslim League Congress”.
