Expelled DMK leader MK Alagiri holds mega rally at Karunanidhi memorial

Chennai | Expelled Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader and Karunanidhi’s son MK Alagiri on Wednesday held a rally at the Karunanidhi memorial located at the Marina beach in Chennai.

MK Alagiri along with his followers paid respect to the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu at his memorial questioned the DMK leadership whether the party would oust all those who supported him.

Speaking to media, Alagiri said, “One lakh people came here to support me today. Will they (DMK) send all of them out? You ask them and let me know.” The statement by Alagiri has come after DMK leader PM Mannan, told media that DMK cadres who received Alagiri at the airport earlier in the day were suspended from the party.

Earlier Alagiri had stated that he was ready to join DMK and accepted Stalin’s leadership. He said, “We are ready to join the DMK… It is obvious that I accept him (Stalin) as my leader.”

Former Union Minister MK Alagiri was expelled in 2014 from DMK by then party president Karunanidhi for indulging in anti-party activities and making derogatory remarks. Whereas MK Stalin was announced as Karunanidhi’s successor and was appointed the working president in 2017 when the health condition of Karunanidhi’s deteriorated.
