South Connect : Contaminated Polio Vaccines Given To Kids In Telangana

The Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed the reports of oral polio vaccines contaminated with the type-2 polio virus which were given to the children in Telangana and other states like Maharashtra and UP. As per the reports, a Health Ministry official confirmed that some vials of the oral polio vaccines were contaminated. The officials further added that there is no need to panic. The polio surveillance team in the three states have been asked to step up the monitoring of all those children who have been given the vaccine and keep a close watch for any symptoms.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is one of the prominent regional leaders who will be skipping the mega anti-BJP rally in Kolkata organized by his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee, as the Congress was also invited to the event. On Friday TRS chief called up Mamata Banerjee and explained to her that he would not share the stage with Congress leaders. He also stated that the first Assembly session of his state was presently underway. KCR has floated the idea of a non-Congress and Non-BJP Federal Front and said that a consortium of regional parties would emerge in the country soon.

Karnataka’s ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition and the opposition BJP traded MLA poaching charges on Monday, and the drama shows little sign of abating. First, a top Karnataka minister levelled horsetrading charges on the BJP, saying three Congress MLAs were in a Mumbai hotel with leaders from the saffron party. Then BS Yeddyurappa, the BJP’s Karnataka unit chief, accused Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of trying to lure his party’s MLAs using “power and money”. The BJP’s MLAs are currently staying in a hotel in Gurgaon, Haryana. Kumaraswamy says there’s no question of instability in his government. However, Karnataka MLAs are currently spread out across three states.. Maharashtra, Haryana and their own.

South Connect: Rahul Gandhi changes Sabarimala stance, says let people of Kerala decide

Taking a U-turn on his earlier stance on women of menstruating age entering the Sabarimala Temple, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said that he sees validity in arguments in favour of the women’s rights and the traditions of the temple. Gandhi was speaking at a press meet during his 2-day UAE tour. “I can see validity in the argument that tradition needs to be protected and I can see validity in the argument that women should have equal rights,” he said at the press meet. However, earlier last year, Rahul Gandhi had openly said that he held a different opinion on the issue from that of his party’s state unit leaders. He stated that he believed women should not be barred from entering any place, despite the Congress leaders in Kerala feeling otherwise. Reportedly, Kerala MPs wanted to stage a protest outside the parliament over the issue, but former Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi had opposed it. However, in UAE Gandhi also confirmed that he had taken this revised stance after speaking to Congress leaders in Kerala who rooted for protecting the traditions of the Sabarimala temple.
