Village Washed Away in Himachal Floods

Flash floods in Himachal have washed away an entire village in Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal which is situated at an altitude of around 4,080 meter above sea level. This is the third time that this village has been destroyed by flood. Flash floods not only washed away the 50 bighas of cultivable fertile land but also completely damaged the newly constructed houses. The administration has vacated the entire village and the villagers have been provided temporary shelter in the government buildings at Losar which is located some two kms from the village. The villagers who lost their homes and cash crops are inconsolable. The villagers had recently renovated their homes after their homes were damaged in flash floods during 2015 floods. Now the villagers are homeless as their homes are destroyed. Seeing their homes getting destroyed, the villagers were seen praying to somehow stop this natural calamity. The villagers have also lost their source of income after the flood destroyed their fertile land. The villagers used to earn by sowing cash crops like green peas and other foodgrains. While interacting with the media, MLA Ravi Thakur has assured that he will try to get proper compensation from the Union Defence Ministry. As the village has people from the Buddhist community, Ravi Thakur stated that he would try to get help from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs.
