Facing contempt charges over his tweets criticizing the Supreme Court, comic Kunal Kamra posted his response on social media today. Kamra said he would neither retract his posts nor apologise for them. Kamra had criticised the supreme court for granting TV anchor Arnab Goswami reprieve. Kamra had accused the court of partiality in hearing cases of particular people on an urgent basis while ignoring another set of people.
“I don’t intend to retract my tweets or apologise for them. I believe they speak for themselves,” the stand-up comedian said.
“No lawyers, no apology, no fine, no waste of space,” he added.

Kamra instead suggested to “volunteer having the time that would be allotted to the hearing of my contempt petition, to other matters and parties who have not been as lucky and privileged as I am to jump the queue.
Kamra also reminded of the important pending cases in the top court to justify his anguish.
“May I suggest the demonetisation petition, the petition challenging the revocation of J&K’s special status, the matter of the legality of electoral bonds or countless other matters that are more deserving of time and attention. To slightly misquote Senior Advocate Harish Salve “Will the heavens fall if more salient matters are allotted my time?”,” Kamra wrote.
