Based on the available documents from Marathwada and other regions concerning the Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha caste certificates, the retired justice Sandeep Shinde Committee’s first report has been approved by the State Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday. Shinde reiterated that the state government is resolved to provide Maratha reservation which will pass the legal scrutiny.
According to the Shinde Committee report, approximately two crore entries from all eight districts of Marathwada have been examined, and 13,498 old Kunbi records have been found. The process of verifying these Kunbi records is underway. The government will commence the process to issue Kunbi caste certificates to those Maratha community people who has necessary records in this regard.
The documents will be translated, digitised, and made available in the public domain, and on this basis, Kunbi caste certificates will also be approved.
Furthermore, for evaluating the social and educational backwardness of the Maratha community and guiding the government on how the reservation for the Maratha community will remain effective in Supreme Court, High Court, and other court cases, the cabinet approved the appointment of an advisory committee under the chairmanship of retired judge Dilip Bhosale with reitred justices Maroti Gayakwad and Sandeep Shinde as members. The Backward Classes Commission has also been directed to gather empirical data.
Meanwhile, Shinde alongwith his cabinet ministers discussed over an hour after the officers were asked to leave the hall following the conclusion of cabinet meeting. Ministers expressed serious concern over the spate of violence, arson reported in Marathwada and rest of Maharashtra targeting the elected representatives. They argued that the protestors indulging in such incidents be dealt witnessed firmly and accordingly it was decided to file FIR for attempt to murder against those who were involved in setting homes and offices of legislators on fire and related violence.
The ministers also brought to the notice of CM and DCM Devendra Fadnavis about how the OBCs are being targeted during the protests. NCP Minister and Samata Parishad founder Chhagan Bhujbal said Fadnavis has assured to accord security cover to OBC leaders across the state.
Besides, it was decided that none of the ministers will go and meet Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil, who is on fast, for further talks. The ministers were unanimous in their argument that the reservation cannot be given in haste as Jarange Patil should give further time to the Government.
However, Jarange Patil announced that he will stop consumption of water from Wednesday eveing if government does not provide quota to all Marathas.
An all party meeting will take place on Wednesday morning.
