On January 26, the British oil tanker Marlin Luanda, carrying 22 Indians and 1 Bangladeshi crew, was attacked by Houthis. The Indian Navy, responding to a distress call, deployed INS Visakhapatnam for firefighting assistance in the Gulf of Aden. Trafigura, the operating company, confirmed a missile hit the tanker in the Red Sea. The USS Carney, a US warship, was also targeted by the Houthis in a separate incident.
