Shivaji Maharaj Statue Collapse: Opposition, BJP Protest In Mumbai

The Maha Vikas Aghadi today began its jode maaro (hit with footwear) march against the Eknath Shinde-led government in Mumbai amid heavy security. INDIA bloc’s Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Nana Patole are taking part in the march from Hutatma Chowk to Gateway of India. The protest is over the collapse of a 35-ft statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg inaugurated by PM Modi eight months back. Meanwhile, the BJP is holding a counter-protest in Dadar led by city party chief Ashish Shelar.

The party cited personal reasons for Tyagi’s resignation and appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new spokesperson. Reports say the former MP’s remarks on issues like Waqf amendment Bill, Uniform Civil Code and the Israel-Hamas war deviated from the party line and did not go down well with BJP’s leadership.
