19 people have been reported injured so far after a passenger train, travelling at 75 kmph, hit a stationary goods train on Friday in Tamil Nadu at around 8:30 pm.

Train 12578 Mysuru – Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a goods train at Kavaraippettai railway station in Tiruvallur district, near Chennai.

The injured have been rushed to the nearest hospital, and no casualties have been reported so far. A high-level probe has been ordered by the railway into the accident.

Reacting to the accident, CM MK Stalin said on X: “I was shocked to know that there was a train accident in Kavaripettai, Tiruvallur district. As soon as the information was available, I ordered the Hon’ble Minister @Avadi_Nasar and other government officials, including the District Collector, to go to the accident site.”

The tweet further said: “The government is working fast in rescue and relief work. The injured are immediately taken to the hospital. A separate team is functioning to arrange food and travel facilities for the other passengers to return home. The fire department is engaged in the work of removing the accident train coaches. I am continuing to monitor the rescue operations.”

“The Mysuru-Darbhanga train accident mirrors the horrific Balasore accident—a passenger train colliding with a stationary goods train. Despite many lives lost in numerous accidents, no lessons are learned. Accountability starts at the top. How many more families must be destroyed before this government wakes up?” Lop in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi said.
