Hours before the announcement of the assembly polls, Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan, acting on the recommendation of the State Cabinet, late on Monday approved the names of seven Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) for the 12 vacant posts under the Governorâs quota.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for the much-awaited Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly polls at 3.30 pm today. The tenure of the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly will end on November 26, while the Jharkhand Assembly, which has 81 seats, will finish its term on January 5, 2025.

Out of the seven MLC seats, the BJP got three, and the Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have got two each.
The BJP recommended the names of its state womenâs wing chief, Chitra Wagh, state general secretary Vikrant Patil, and spiritual leader of the Banjara community, Dharmaguru Babusingh Maharaj Rathod.
The NCP recommended the names of former MLA Pankaj Bhujbal, son of veteran OBC leader Chagan Bhujbal, and Idris Naikwadi. The Shiv Sena has recommended the names of former MLC Manish Kayande and former Lok Sabha MP Hemant Patil.
