Amid Protests, Govt Likely To End Parliament’s Monsoon Session Today

The government wants to end the 18-day session within 10 days due to concerns that 30 MPs, including 2 ministers, and several parliamentarians have tested corona positive.

 

New Delhi| The monsoon session of Parliament can be concluded today. Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan has said that the government has decided to recommend adjournment of Parliament’s proceedings today. But before this, some important issues have to be settled in the Lok Sabha.

The government wants to end the 18-day session within 10 days due to concerns that 30 MPs, including 2 ministers, and several parliamentarians have tested corona positive while the session was ongoing. In the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha last week, all parties had agreed to shorten the session. The schedule for the monsoon season which commenced on 14th September is till 1 October.

 

The proceedings of the Lok Sabha will begin at 6 pm today

The National Education Policy can be discussed in the Lok Sabha today. The Lok Sabha proceedings were starting from 3 pm every day except the first day of the monsoon session, but today it will be delayed by 3 hours i.e. 6 pm. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla gave this information on Tuesday, according to news agency ANI.

Since the proceedings of the upper house of the parliament are expected to be delayed due to the speeches of the retiring members, the Lok Sabha will also commence late in the day. However, the Rajya Sabha schedule is from 9 am to 1 pm.

 

Sonia-Rahul return from abroad, no decision on attending Parliament

Congress President Sonia Gandhi had gone abroad for medical checkup before the monsoon session started. Rahul Gandhi also went with her. Both returned to Delhi on Tuesday, but there is no definite decision on whether they will come to Parliament today. According to sources, Sonia and Rahul were in contact with Congress leaders even while abroad. Party leader Ahmed Patel had said that the strategy of protest on the agriculture bills was prepared on the instructions of Sonia-Rahul.

 

7 bills including the third agriculture bill passed without opposition

The third Agriculture Bill was also passed on Tuesday amid opposition’s boycott in Parliament That means the bills were passed in absence of opposition. In opposition to the suspension of 8 MPs from the Rajya Sabha on Monday, all opposition parties, including the Congress, boycotted the proceedings of both houses.

In record three and a half hours Govt passed 7 bills without any questions. Among these was the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill. Through this, the government removed grains, pulses, oilseeds, edible oils, potatoes and onions from the list of essential commodities and also abolished the stock limit.

Opposition will create further strategy on farmer bills

Opposition parties will meet today in the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad. Further strategy will be discussed to oppose the bills related to farming.

 

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh ends 24-hour fast

Opposition MPs tore up the rulebook in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday to protest the agricultural bills and tried to break the vice-chairman’s mic. Saddened by this behavior of MPs, Harivansh announced to observe a 24-hour fast on Tuesday morning. This morning he ended the fast by drinking juice.
