A day ago, in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, eight security personnel lost their lives in a Maoist blast. Among them, five had joined the police force after quitting Naxalism, a senior official said.
Inspector General of Police (Bastar range), Sundarraj P, told PTI that Head Constable Budhram Korsa and constables Dumma Markam, Pandaru Ram, Baman Sodhi, all belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG), along with Constable Somdu Vetti of the Bastar Fighters, were formerly active as Naxalites but joined the police force after surrendering.
He further added that last year, 792 Naxalites surrendered in the Bastar region, which comprises seven districts.
