Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin today said that the man accused of sexually assaulting a student on Anna University campus is a DMK supporter.
“I assure you that the one arrested in the Chennai student case is not a member of DMK. He is a DMK sympathiser we don’t deny,” CM Stalin said speaking in the assembly.
Referring to pictures of the accused with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other DMK leaders, Stalin said: “He could have taken pictures with ministers and politicians, nothing wrong in it. But he is not a DMK member but a sympathiser. That is the truth,” CM Stalin added.

The DMK leader further said: Nevertheless, even if the accused “had been from DMK”, “I would have taken action.”
“The sexual assault case is a very serious issue. Nobody can deny that. The Tamil Nadu government has no other aim but to ensure that justice is given to the victim in this case,” The CM added.
The CM further informed the house Gnanasekaran, (the accused) was arrested the very next day after a complaint was received in the Kotturpuram police station in the afternoon of December 24. He has since been detained under the Goondas Act.
CM Stalin also said that the Tamil Nadu government will ensure the chargesheet in this case is filed within 60 days. “And there is a speedy trial in a special court to ensure the perpetrator gets the maximum punishment.”
The CM then referred to the Pollachi sexual assault case that happened during the AIADMK regime and highlighted that the CBI investigation into that case revealed that only persons with connections with the AIADMK were involved in this crime.
Opposing this, Deputy Leader of the Opposition, RB Udhayakumar said the CBI investigation was ordered by the then Chief Minister EPS.
After this, the AIADMK MLAs stood up and raised their objections. Following this, the DMK MLAs were also on their feet and shouted back at the AIADMK MLAs. After which, there was chaos in the house.
AIADMK MLAs who had come to the assembly wearing black shirts then staged a walkout.
THE AIADMK MLAs staged a protest outside the House. AIADMK leaders chanted slogans of “We condemn the CM” and “Don’t tell lies”.
What Had Happened on December 23?
On December 23, a student of Anna University was sexually assaulted, filmed, and allegedly blackmailed by Gnanasekaran. The victim filed a police complaint on December 24, and an FIR was filed. Gnanasekaran was booked on charges of rape and sexual harassment.
On 27th December, Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president K Annamalai, shirtless, flogged himself six times to protest against the sexual assault.
