โ€œStudents Appearing For Board Exams Should Not Be Permitted To Wear Burqaโ€: Minister Nitesh Rane

Maharashtra Minister of Fisheries & Ports Development and BJP leader Nitesh Rane on Wednesday called for a ban on wearing a burqa during the upcoming board examinations for classes 10 and 12, citing concerns over possible malpractices.

In a letter to the School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, Rane said that allowing girl students to wear burqas inside examination halls could facilitate cheating and pose security challenges.

โ€œStudents appearing for the 10th and 12th board exams should not be permitted to wear burqa. If necessary, female police officers or female staff should be appointed to conduct checks. These exams are crucial for studentsโ€™ future and must be conducted transparently, without any scope for malpractices,โ€ Rane stated.

Rane further said: โ€œIf examinees are allowed to wear burqas, it will be difficult to determine whether electronic devices or other means are being used to cheat. In case of any untoward incident, it could lead to social and law-and-order issues, affecting many students.โ€

The Maharashtra Secondary School Certificate exam for Class 10 will commence on February 21. The Higher Secondary Certificate exam for Class 12 will start from February 11.
