Temple Remains, Idol Residues Found In Ayodhya During Levelling Of Temple Construction Site

The Supreme Court, in its landmark judgment in a decades-old land dispute, ruled 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya to be handed over to the Hindu deity Ram Lalla.

Ayodhya| During the leveling of the ground at Ram Janmabhoomi Temple site in Ayodhya, seven pillars of black touchstone, six pillars of red sandstone, a five-foot Shivling, and remains of idols of gods and goddess have been recovered. VHP leader and Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra Trust’s general secretary Champat Rai informed that leveling of the ground is being conducted for the last ten days. During this leveling. the pillars and other items were found in the debris.

“Debris is being removed and the land is being leveled at Ram Janmabhoomi for the past 10 days. Discovered pillar in the debris of the structure and carvings on sandstone. Found a Shivling there and a similar one at Kuber Teela,” he said.

The recovery of items and pillars are of extreme importance as they attest facts that a religious structure stood at the site before invaders destroyed it and build a mosque over the structure.

In 2003, the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) too had made discoveries during the excavation according to the Allahabad High Court’s orders, indicating that religious structures existed at the site where Babri Masjid once stood. The Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1991 by Kar Sevaks. Stone and decorated bricks, pillars, a sculpture of gods among other items were found of ASI during this excavation.

In its verdict on November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court had also referred to the findings of ASI in 2003, noting that Babri Masjid was situated on the walls of the large pre-existing structures beneath it.

The Supreme Court, in its landmark judgment in a decades-old land dispute, ruled 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya to be handed over to the Hindu deity Ram Lalla. The unanimous verdict of the constitution bench also directed the centre to allot 5 acres land to Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of mosque somewhere else.
