Manmohan Singh Is Stable, Kept Under Observation: AIIMS Sources

Former PM Singh, who now represents Rajasthan in Rajya Sabha, is diabetic and has undergone two bypass surgeries- one in 1990 and another in 2009.

New Delhi| Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) last night over the chest problems, in now stable, sources from the prestigious institute informed today.

The senior Congress leader was referred to the cardio-thoracic ward in the institute at 8.45 PM on Sunday night “for observation and investigation after he developed a febrile reaction to a new medication”, AIIMS sources informed. The sources also said that Singh is being treated by a team of doctors in the cardio-thoracic ward.

“Other causes of fever” are also being ruled out by the doctors, sources said.

Dr. Nitish Naik, a professor of cardiology, is treating the former PM, news agency PTI reported.

Former PM Singh, who now represents Rajasthan in Rajya Sabha, is diabetic and has undergone two bypass surgeries- one in 1990 and another in 2009.

The renowned economist, who is often bestowed for the sweeping economic reforms he brought in the 1990s, was Prime Minister for 10 years representing the Congress Party before the ruling BJP decimated the Congress and Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were two of the many leaders who expressed concerns over the health of Singh after he was admitted to AIIMS last night.

“Deeply concerned about Dr Manmohan Singh Ji’s health. Hope he makes a full recovery soon. All of India is praying for our former PM,” Kejriwal tweeted on Sunday night.

Ashok Gehlot said, “Much worried to know former PM Dr Manmohan Singhji has been admitted to AIIMS. I wish him speedy recovery and pray for his good health and long life.”
