Trump further added, “I was asking a sarcastic and a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside.”
Washington| The US President Donald Trump has now said that his remarks on 23rd April about an ‘unnamed’ disinfectant, which garnered outrage from the USA as well as other parts of the world, were sarcastic.
A reporter on 24th April asked Trump, “Could you clarify your comments about injections of disinfectants? They’re quite provocative.”
Trump responded saying, “I was asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen.”
Trump further added, “I was asking a sarcastic and a very sarcastic question to the reporters in the room about disinfectant on the inside.”
The reported further questioned, “But you were asking your medical experts to look into it. Were you being sarcastic with them?”
Putting the responsibility on Bill Bryan, head of the Department of Homeland Security’s science and technology division, Trump said, “No, to look into whether or not sun and disinfectant on the hands…but whether or not sun can help us. Because I mean, he came in yesterday and he said they’ve done a big study. This is a study, this isn’t where he hasn’t done it, this is where they’ve come in with a final report…”
Though, Bill Bryan had clarified on 23rd April that his laboratory is not doing studies on disinfectants.
Trump, in his controversial remarks on 23rd April, had said, “I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning?”
The new White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, defending the US President, said, “Leave it to the media to irresponsibly take President Trump out of context and run with negative headlines.”
