On the second day of summit, PM Modi goes for “Plogging”, cleans beach

PM Modi spent about 30 minutes jogging on the beach of Mahabalipuram on Saturday morning while cleaning up the beach and pick up the garbage.

 

Mahabalipuram| Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. While on the first day of the meet the two leaders had an elaborate conversation over dinner, the second day of PM Modi at Mahabalipuram (also known as Mamallapuram) began with a message of fitness and cleanliness.

PM Modi spent about 30 minutes jogging on the beach of Mahabalipuram on Saturday morning. During this, he also took upon himself the task of cleaning up the beach and pick up the garbage. The activity is called “Plogging”. It involves Jogging while picking up trash. The Prime Minister also appealed to the people to keep public places clean.

In a video shared by PM Modi on his Twitter, he is seen jogging on the beach of Mahabalipuram, Picking up the trash, and then handing it over to one of the support staff.

PM Modi wrote, “Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff. Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy! Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy.”

Modi had mentioned this campaign in the Mann Ki Baat program on 29 September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Ripudaman Belvi, a young Indian man for introducing plogging to India. It was also new to him the first time he heard the word plogging. Ripudaman has popularized the form of running.

The two leaders will also meet at the ASEAN Summit in Bangkok

Meanwhile, there will also be a representative level discussion between India and China on Saturday. After this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a lunch for Chinese President Xi Jinping. This informal meeting will take place at a resort. Modi visited Wuhan in China for the first informal meeting in April last year. The two leaders will also meet at the ASEAN Summit to be held in Bangkok between 31 October and 4 November.
