PM Modi-Sheikh Hasina meet today: Sources say NRC not a focus

New Delhi| Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met today. Sheikh Hasina who is in India for a four-day visit, are going to jointly inaugurate three projects on Saturday during the bilateral meeting between the two sides.

The two Prime ministers are expected to sign six to seven agreements during the bilateral meeting. Earlier in the day, Sheikh Hasina met External Affairs Minister (EAM), Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, “We expect that about 6 to 7 documents will be signed in the field of transport, connectivity, capacity building and culture. The two leaders will jointly inaugurate three projects that you will get to know tomorrow.”

NRC not a focus:

The National Registrar of Citizens that created a flutter in India will not be a focus of the discussion between two leaders, sources said. According to the reports, the two leaders will rather talk about trade, capacity building and cultural exchange.

NRC had come into focus after the final list in Assam left out as many as 1.9 million people. Home Minister Amit Shah who was visiting Bengal had also said that the government will bring Citizenship Amendment Bill to ensure that the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christians refugees will not be thrown out of the country.
