Unnao Rape Case: Kuldeep Sengar Gets 10 Yrs In Prison For Murder of Victim’s Father

In 2017, Kuldeep Sengar kidnapped & raped a minor. He is already serving a life term in the rape case, as per a sentence handed down in December last year.

New Delhi| Expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar and 6 other men, including his brother and two policemen, have been sentenced to 10 years in jail for the murder of Unnao rape survivor’s father.

Sengar, a four-time BJP MLA from Unnao’s Bangermau, had won the assembly polls in 2017. He was expelled from the party after allegations were levelled against him.

Following his conviction in the Unnao rape case in December last year, a Delhi court had sentenced Sengar to life imprisonment.

Kuldeep Sengar had also been ordered to pay Rs 30 lakh to the family of the rape survivor.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma, while pronouncing the order, said the accused did not deserve a lenient sentence given the facts and circumstances of the case.

“There can be no denying the fact that the rule of law was broken. Ashok Singh Bhadauria, KP Singh and Kuldeep Singh Sengar are public functionaries… they are supposed to observe the rule of law. The fact that he (father) was beaten up, paraded and ultimately died… this is not a fit case for leniency,” the court said.

After the order on sentence was pronounced, the Station Officer, Ashok pleaded for mercy in front of the judge. “What is my children’s fault. I was just doing my job. I have nothing to do with Sengar. This is like death. Please have mercy on me.”

To which the Judge replied, “It is difficult for us to make decisions. When you committed the crime you should have thought about your children and wife.”

While convicting the accused, the court said the sequence of events “establishes clearly, beyond reasonable doubt, that under the patronage of accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar, his foot soldiers — namely Vineet Mishra, Birender Singh and Shashi Pratap Singh (and probably with others who could not be identified) — assaulted the victim with leg and fist blows by intermittently hitting him… with the barrel of the rifle.”

“The victim lost her father. She can’t return to her home. There are four kids in the family… three of them are girls…all four are minors,” District Judge Dharmesh Sharma said this morning while delivering the judgment in Delhi.

The rape case, which made international headlines, came under the scanner when the girl – after running from pillar to post for justice – tried to commit suicide outside Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath’s home.

The next day, her father died while in custody at a local hospital. The 55-year-old had been arrested after complaint of illegal arms possession.
