New Delhi| Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah has been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). A person detained under the draconian Public Safety Act can be detained for 2 years without any hearing.
Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has been under house arrest since August 5 last month. But the former Chief Minister has been booked under the PSA on Saturday.

A case was filed under the PSA on Farooq Abdullah a day before the hearing on the Habeas Corpus petition of MDMK leader Vaiko in the Supreme Court. This has been done on behalf of the government to avoid being embarrassed to justify the arrest of the leaders if there is no paper during the hearing in the court.
Center should reply by 30 September
Farooq Abdullah has been detained by the Home Ministry at his residence and his residence has been declared as a Subsidiary Jail. He is forced to live in his own house, but during this time he cannot meet his friend or any other relative.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and has asked to reply by 30 September.
It has been more than 40 days since Article 370 was abrogated from Jammu and Kashmir. These petitions are heard by the bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
