“We are talking of $5 Trillion economy when GDP growth going down”: Manmohan Singh

Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh said that a strategy has to be chalked out to improve the economic conditions so that the situation can improve.

 

Jaipur| Almost a week after slamming the government for a slowdown in the economy, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has hit out at the Modi govt once again. Singh said that the govt is talking about $5 Trillion economies while the GDP growth is going down. He also said that India needs a well-conceived strategy to achieve the goal.

Dr Manmohan Singh attended the program of JK Laxmipat University in Jaipur on Saturday. During the program, he was addressing the crowd on the topic of Strengthing Roots of Democracy in India. He was honoured with the JKLU Laureate Award.

Manmohan Singh said that the Indian Constitution is the power of democracy while stating the specificity of the Indian Constitution. He said that it is our good fortune that we live in the best democracy in the world. He said that the most comprehensive Indian constitution protects the rights of all people.

A strategy should be made to improve the economic situation

During the lecture, Singh also spoke about the country’s economy. He said that the country’s GDP is constantly going down. While the govt is aiming for the $5 trillion economy. He said that a strategy has to be chalked out to improve the economic conditions so that the situation can improve.

Remembering Pandit Nehru

Remembering India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Singh said that in 1952 he had talked about strengthening the economic situation of the country. But conditions still have not improved much.

Improvement in standard of living of BPL families

He also said that in 1991, the standard of living of BPL families had improved and we would have to come forward to improve the condition of these families more.
