Swapan Dasgupta had resigned from the Upper House on March 16 after questions were raised about him contesting the West Bengal Assembly elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket despite being a nominated MP in the Rajya Sabha. However, he lost the Tarkeshwar constituency to his Trinamool Congress rival Ramendu Sinharay by margin of 7,484 votes. On Tuesday, a notification by the Centre said that President Ram Nath Kovind has re-nominated Dasgupta to the Rajya Sabha for the reminder of the term till April 24 next year. In this episode of the Editorial our Managing Editor Mr Sujit Nair shares his take on the matter.
