New Delhi| Former President of India and senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee was awarded India’s highest Civilian Award on Thursday. He was conferred this award by his successor President of India Ramnath Kovind.
Apart from Pranab Mukherjee, Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Nanaji Deshmukh and singer Bhupen Hazarika were also conferred with Bharat Ratna. While Pranab Mukherjee received the award from the hands of President, Hazarika’s son Tej and Virenderjeet Singh, a close relative of Deshmukh attended the function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here.
Hazarika and Deshmukh were given the Bharat Ratna posthumously.
